So I've recently modded my Commodore 64 with JiffyDOS and also built a 64 HDD server for mass storage. Everything was working great until I started noticing color changes on the screen and characters popping in an out of existence.
I finally tracked it down to a power supply issue. The last power supply problem I had blew out two of my computers.. this one just seems to be over-voltaging the VIC-II chip. Definitely not an ideal condition, but at least it didn't fry the board. I ended up testing the system with a borrowed power brick and everything worked great.
Now I just need to get my hands on a replacement power supply.. and with the prices on fleabay, that's not going be cheap. I really wish, with all of the Commodore 64 projects being done, someone could build and sell a modern reliable power supply for these systems.
It would save a lot of headaches... and classic Commodores.
