Mark Vergeer has recently returned from this years Replay Expo in Blackpool and has posted his footage of the event. From all accounts it appears a great time was had by all. He also had the opportunity to chat with Jeff Minter.. one of my own personal messiahs.

Kudos Mark, glad you had a good time!

Check out these videos of the event.

For those of you who lived through the mid eighties to early ninties with either a Commodore Amiga or an Atari ST: You probably came across a number of these intros on your extensively "borrowed" collection of games.

This fine site has now set about the business of converting and preserving these cracker intros (called Cractros) in Flash. So now you can experience the artwork, effects and music from the comfort of your browser.

CheeseCutter is a SID music tracker developed by Abbadon of Fairlight. JCH Tracker was used as the inspiration and it fully integrates the reSID engine developed by Dag Lem.

Changes in v0.5.0:
  • Playback tracking doesn't wrap when a voice with the shortest length reaches the end. It still doesn't work right with songs that have voices of different lengths.
  • Playback tracking doesn't stop user from editing tables or changing song variables while enabled.
  • Scroll Lock can toggle playback tracking on/off.
  • Extra checks for the "official" NP21.G5 to distinguish it from Samar's player with same version number.
  • Possible to switch between ReSID-FP filter presets using Ctrl-F8 and Shift-Ctrl-F8 (thanks Blackspawn!). With the commandline switch -fpr can choose a default preset (accepted values 0-16 for 6581 and 0-1 for 8580).
  • Added a "spartan" mode which disables some editor features (command line option "-s"). Intented for those who use highly modified players which would not work with them.
  • Disabled features are: playback position indicators, playback tracking, player version & info strings.
  • New function in the Instrument Table: with Ctrl-X you can swap the places of two instruments. Updates all the sequence data accordingly. NOTE! Does not update supertable commands which point to instrument values. Use with caution.
  • "R" in the command column enters the previously entered command (eg. 'S01') to the current row.

The fine gentlemen over at RetroGaming RoundUp have released their October 2011 podcast and as usual it's packed full of humor, obscure sound clips and loads or retro-gaming goodness.

This months episode clocks in at an ear melting six hours and twenty odd minutes.. Having struggled to put out a fifteen minute podcast segment, I'm just in awe of that. The guys have quite a gift for gab, and it's entertaining the whole way through.

The breakdown for this months episode is as follows:
  • [000:00] Editorial: The Game Room Part 2.
  • [025:26] Retro Regurge: Miner 2049er.
  • [029:27] Dragon 32/64 Computers.
  • [048:51] Hardware Flashback: Williams PHOF (3DS).
  • [061:34] Williams PHOF (3DS) Rebuttal.
  • [075:40] Guinness Gaming Records.
  • [077:18] Geoff Edwards Interview Part 2.
  • [124:42] Top Ten Game Controllers.
  • [257:35] Gaming Trivia.
  • [259:53] The British Hour.
  • [272:49] Live News And Listener Views.
  • [372:54] 20 Questions.
  • [374:53] You Be My Princess Peach (The Disco King).
  • [377:24] URLs And EMails.
Head over to their site and give it a listen.
